I just bought this beautiful Epiphone Sheraton and I've been having lots of trouble trying to date it, the serial numer is 80100497(no prefix). At first I thought it was an early Korean model...beause of the "Epiphone by Gibson" logo..the serial number makes me think it was made in 1980 and the tuners have "Made in Japan" engraved on them. The most weird thing of all, is something that I discovered by accident.

It follows that potential scammers can use this knowledge to try to trick unsuspecting buyers.

If you have any doubts as to a guitars’ authenticity please contact the guitar manufacturer before your purchase.

Epiphone was a family business that was created in 1873.

Now, however, Epiphone is a subsidiary company of the world famous guitar company, Gibson.

Epiphone provides an affordable alternative to the relatively higher priced Gibson guitars.

Epiphone guitars come in many varieties, including acoustic, electric, and acoustic-electric hybrids.

It can be difficult to date a guitar, but there are some steps you can take to determine a range of dates during which a guitar was created.

The Epiphone serial number decoder currently supports 12 serial number formats from 25 factories. Serial numbers from 70' and 80's era Epiphone guitars made in Japan are not supported.

The reason for this is that there is no reliable documentation from this time period.
