Three death row prisoners in Indonesia are listed to face the firing squad within weeks, it is reported today. But while three were last night moved to where executions take place, former Redcar resident Lindsay Sandiford isn’t believed to have been among them.

The Sydney Morning Herald today quotes Central Java Police spokesman Alloysius Liliek Darmanto as saying there are currently 13 drug offenders on the list of prisoners to be executed. We just wait for instructions from the Attorney General’s office.” In a possible sign executions are imminent, three prisoners on death row for drug offences were last night transferred from Batam to Nusakambangan, where executions take place.

However all three are Indonesian, so it appears Sandiford has a temporary stay of execution - in the very short term at least.

The three Indonesians - two 53-year-olds and a 42-year-old - were taken to Batu island, one of seven prisons on the island known as Indonesia’s Alcatraz.

NOTE: Number of Victims refers to the victims in the underlying murder in cases where an execution has occurred since the restoration of the death penalty in 1976.

There are more victims than executions because some cases involve more than one victim.

"In 82% of the studies [reviewed], race of the victim was found to influence the likelihood of being charged with capital murder or receiving the death penalty, i.e., those who murdered whites were found more likely to be sentenced to death than those who murdered blacks." - United States General Accounting Office, Death Penalty Sentencing, February 1990 The cases represented here are cases of one defendant executed for the murder of one or more victims of one race.

Cases involving multiple victims of several different races are not included here.
